Free software, provided as is

These terms cover the Byterush app, its browser extension and this website, all made by Alterbit and the Byterush contributors. They are short because the software is free and open source: the MIT license already says most of what matters, and nothing here takes away what it gives you.

01 · the license

You may use, copy, change and share it

Byterush, the extension and this website's source are released under the MIT license. You may use them for anything, personal or commercial, copy them, change them and pass them on, as long as the license notice stays with the code. The Byterush name and logo identify this project; please don't use them for a different product in a way that would confuse people about where it comes from.

02 · no warranty

As is, without any warranty

The software is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Downloading files over many connections, resuming them and handing them between a browser and the app involves other people's servers and your own disk, and things can go wrong: a download can fail, a file can be incomplete, a server can refuse the connections. Byterush checks what it can and tells you what it sees, but you use it at your own risk and should keep copies of anything you can't afford to lose.

To the extent permitted by law, neither Alterbit nor any contributor is liable for any claim, damages or other liability arising from the software or its use, whether in contract, tort or otherwise. Where the law does not allow some of this to be excluded, it is limited to the smallest extent the law allows.

03 · your downloads

What you download is your responsibility

Byterush is a tool: it fetches the files you point it at, from the servers you point it at, with the credentials your browser already has. It hosts nothing and offers nothing to download by itself. You are responsible for having the right to download what you download, for the terms of the sites you download from, and for the laws that apply to you. Don't use it to overload a server, to get around access controls you are not entitled to pass, or for anything else that would be wrongful without it.

04 · other services

Services that aren't ours

The app's downloads and this site's download buttons come from GitHub Releases, and the extension from the Chrome Web Store; the site itself is hosted on Vercel. Each has its own terms and privacy practices, which apply when you use them. The servers you download from are, of course, their owners' business and not ours.

05 · privacy

Your data stays with you

The app and the extension send nothing to us. What each part touches, and why, is on the privacy page, which is part of these terms.

06 · changes and contact

Changes, law and contact

We may update these terms when the software or the site changes; the date at the top says when they last did, and the project's changelog lists the change. Continuing to use the software after a change means you accept the new terms. If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still applies.

These terms are governed by the laws of Italy, where Alterbit is based, without affecting any rights consumer law gives you where you live. Questions and complaints go to the issue tracker.
